Society founded in Newark (New Jersey) on 1st April 1929 by migrants from this parish from Ribeira. As usual, a “sister” society was also created in Palmeira. Their aim was to help their community in Galicia and for this purpose they built a community centre of 600 square meters in their hometown. Both societies are still active nowadays (Sources: exhibition at Ribeira City Council; “La Sociedad Hijos de Palmeira cumple mañana ochenta años”).
